Rizvi shifted to BSMMU

Dhaka: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi was shifted to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) on Saturday for medical treatment following a High Court order.
He was taken to the BSMMU from the Kashimpur Central Jail in the afternoon.
Kashimpur prison jailer Nasir Ahmed said the BNP leader was moved to the BSMMU prison cell for treatment as he has been suffering from various health complications.
Earlier on Wednesday, the High Court ordered the jail authorities to admit BNP joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi to the BSMMU.
An HC bench comprising Justice Naima Haider and Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam issued the rule after hearing a writ petition filed by his lawyers.
Amid the BNP’s non-stop countrywide transport blockade, members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Rizvi from a house in the capital city’s Baridhara area on 31 January.
