Keraniganj: A suspected robber was killed and two others were injured in a reported gunfight between his associates and police at Par Gendaria Satpathi in South Keraniganj in the early hours of Sunday.

The deceased is Yusuf,a resident of Hajar Bigha village of Dohar upazila, while the injured as Ismael, a resident of Madhya Matoali village in Goshaihat upazila of Shariatpur, and Sohrab, a resident of Awliabad village in Kalkini upazila of Madaripur district.

The Keraniganj Model police said a team of police conducted a drive in the area while a gang of robbers were preparing to commit robbery there at about 1:45am.

Sensing the presence of police, the robbers opened fire on the law enforcers, forcing them to fire back, triggering a gunfight, leaving three members of the robber gang injured with bullets.

Later, police arrested the injured while their other associates managed to flee the scene.

Of the injured, Yusuf was taken to Mitford Hospital where he died at about 3:30am.

Police also recovered three firearms and two rounds of bullet from the spot.

The South Keraniganj police said the trio were members of an inter-district robber gang.

They were wanted in several cases, including for murder and robbery, the OC added.
