Dhaka: BNP has chalked various programmes to celebrate its 37th founding anniversary in a befitting manner on 1 September.

The programmes include discussion, hoisting party flag, placing wreaths at the grave of party founder.

Besides, separate discussions will be held to mark the jail release days of BNP chief Khaleda Zia and senior vice chairman Tarique Rahman on 12 September and 3 September respectively.

The programmes were worked out at a joint meeting of the party with the leaders of its associate bodies.

After the meeting, BNP spokesman Asaduzzaman Ripon announced the programmes.

As per founding anniversary programmes, the party flag will be hoisted atop its Nayapaltan central office and all other offices of BNP across the country at 6:00 am on 1 September.

Besides, BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia along with party leaders and activists will place wreaths and offer fateha at the mazar of its founder ex-President Ziaur Rahman at 10:00 am on the day.

The party will also arrange a discussion at Kakrail Diploma Engineers' Institute in the afternoon on the same day.

Ripon said they have a plan to bring out a colourful rally marking the day. ‘We’ll seek permission from the authorities concerned to this end. If we’re permitted, we’ll finalise it.’

Besides, doa mahfils will be arranged in the city and across the country seeking salvation of the departed souls of the leaders contributed to the party and sacrificed for it.

On 1 September 1978, late President Ziaur Rahman formed BNP with a 19-point programme to build a self-reliant Bangladesh. BNP ruled Bangladesh for several terms.
