DU teachers, students observe ‘Black Day’
Dhaka: Teachers and students of Dhaka University observed 'Black Day' on Sunday marking the atrocities unleashed by law enforcers in 2007.
The university authorities took various programmes, including wearing black badges and holding discussion at TSC, marking the day.
Classes remained closed from 11.30am to 1:00pm. The teachers and students brought out a rally marking the day.
A seminar was held at the Teacher and Student Centre (TSC) where DU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique was present as the chief guest.
Speaking at the discussion, AAMS Arefin Siddique condemned the heinous attack on the university’s students and teachers, and demanded punishment for those responsible for the attack.
The discussion was attended, among others, by DU Teachers’ Association (Duta) president Professor Dr Farid Uddin Ahmed and DU treasurer Professor Dr Mohammad Kamal Uddin while acting DU registrar Syed Rezaur Rahman moderated the programme.
Scores of students were wounded in police action on 20-23 August in 2007 following which four senior teachers and seven students were taken into custody and thrown behind bars.
