Why Bihari camp arson victims won’t get monetary help, asks HC

Dhaka: The High Court (HC) on Tuesday issued a rule asking the authorities concerned why order will not be given to offer financial support to the victims of an arson attack at a Bihari camp at Kalshi in the capital in June 2014.
An HC bench comprising Justice Justice Dr. Quazi Reza-Ul Hoque and Justice Abu Taher Md. Saifur Rahman came up with the rule after hearing a writ petition filed by two Urdu-speaking leaders of the Bihari camp.
Nine persons including the cabinet secretary, home secretary, senior secretary of Prime Minister’s Office, Inspector General of Police and DMP Police Commissioner were asked to answer to the rule within four weeks.
Earlier, on June 14 last year, nine people, including four women and four children, were burnt to death in a fire during a series of clashes between two groups of stranded Pakistanis over blasting crackers during Shab-e-Barat at Kurmitola Bihari camp at Kalshi in Dhaka.
Another man, Azad, was killed in a fight with police.
Later, M Sadkat Hossain Khan and M Shahid Ali Babul, president and secretary of Urdu Speaking Youth Rehabilitation Movement respectively, filed a writ petition seeking the HC’s direction for financial help.
