Police get another day to quiz Shawkat
Dhaka: A Dhaka court on Thursday placed Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson Khaleda Zia’s adviser and journalists’ union leader Shawkat Mahmud on a one-day fresh police custody in a case filed with Lalbagh police station.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Tarek Mainul remanded him on one-day police custody when officer-in-charge Md Moniruzzaman of Lalbagh
Police Station, also the investigation officer of the case, produced him before the court seeking a seven-day police custody.
The court also turned down a bail petition filed by his lawyer Mohammad Murad Chowdhury.
Earlier on 24 August, the court placed the journalist leader on a four-day fresh police custody in four cases filed with Paltan and Motijheel police stations.
On 19 August, the court placed Shawkat Mahmud on a three-day police custody after his arrest from in front of Samurai Convention Centre in the city’s Panthapath area on 18 August.
Earlier 23 January, a group of miscreants set a bus on fire by hurling petrol bomb in front of Home Economics College in Azimpur area and obstructed the police from their duty.
A case was filed with Lalbagh Police Station in this connection on that day.
