Lakshmipur: A local Juba Dal leader was hacked to death by some miscreants at Siladi in Sadar upazila in Lakshmipur on Thursday night.

The deceased is Sabuj Hossain, general secretary of no 1 Siladi union unit Juba Dal and resident of the area.

Quoting local people, police said a group of miscreants intercepted Sabuj and hacked him to death while returning to his home from his poultry farm at about 11:30pm.

Hearing hue and cry, local people went in and caught five miscreants and gave them a good thrashing while fleeing the spot after the murder.

Later they were handed over to police.

They are Belal Hossain, a local Islami Chhatra Shibir activist, his father Jaher Ahmed, his brother Riaz Hossain, Arif Hossain and Mahiuddin.

Police inspected the spot and sent the body to Sadar hospital morgue for an autopsy.

Police suspected that miscreants might have killed Sabuj following dispute over land with Belal.

The Chandraganj police said police detained five people including a Shibir man suspecting their involvement in the killing.
