Dhaka: The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) 2 on Sunday fixed 1 September to pass order whether to punish Gonoswasthya Kendra founder Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury for committing contempt of court.

Earlier, the tribunal was set to declare its judgement on Sunday but the second tribunal reset the date acting on its own motion.

Earlier on 12 July, the ICT 2 issued a notice upon Zafrullah asking him to explain as to why the court shall not punish him for committing contempt of court.

The tribunal issued that order, accepting a contempt plea brought against him by fellow freedom fighters Manoranjan Ghoshal, Ali Asgar, Nazrul Islam and Gonojagoron Manch organisers Kamal Pasha Chowdhury and FM Shahin.

Zafrullah, who is facing the same charge for the third time, had sought unconditional apology on 9 August for his act.
