Suspected forest robber killed in ‘shootout’

Mongla: A man was killed in reported gunfight with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) members near Darjar Khal in the Sundarbans in the early hours of Monday.
The law enforcers said deceased, 30-years-old Khalil was the second-in-command of a forest robber gang, Monir Bahini.
Khalil was a resident of Shoronkhola in Bagerhat.
RAB-8 commanding officer lieutenant colonel Faridul Alam said the members of Monir Bahini opened fire to the RAB men as they were patrolling near Darjar Khal at Sharankhola range in East Sundarbans.
RAB members also fired back which triggered a gunfight, leaving Khalil dead on the spot.
The other robbers fled from the spot. Later, local fishermen identified Khalil’s body.
RAB also seized seven guns, three LGs, an air gun, bullets, sharp weapons, two mobile phone sets, and three mobile sims.
RAB said the body will be handed over to the Sharankhola police.
