No exemption for Hazari from ACC case
Dhaka: The Appellate Division on Monday revoked a High Court verdict that had released former lawmaker Joynal Hazari from a case lodged for acquiring illegal wealth.
A four-member Appellate Division bench headed by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha issued the order, asking for rehearing the appeal lodged by the accused before the High Court.
During the tenure of the last caretaker government, a special court in Feni sentenced Hazari, who was on the run during the time, to three-year imprisonment for failing to submit his wealth statement and 10-year imprisonment for acquiring illegal wealth.
Hazari then appealed against the order before the High Court and the court subsequently cancelled his sentence.
Anti-Corruption Commission, the complainant in the case, lodged appeal against the High Court order and on Monday the Apex Court passed order, accepting that appeal.
