ILO launches Bangla radio programme for workers
Dhaka: The International Labour Organisation (ILO) will launch a weekly Bangla-language radio programme for workers titled ‘Amar Shram, Amar Odhikhar (My Labour, My Rights) to help create better understand of rights and responsibilities in the workplace.
The weekly radio show will be inaugurated at Sonargoan Hotel in Dhaka at about 3:30pm on Thursday, according to an ILO media release.
Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu, State Minister for Labour and Employment Mujibul Haque Chunnu, Labour and Employment secretary Mikail Shipar and country director of ILO Country Office for Bangladesh Srinivas B Reddy will present on the occasion.
With support of the government of Bangladesh and the government of Norway, the weekly one-hour radio talk show will be launched on Radio Today on 4 September 2015. In all, 16 episodes of the show are scheduled to be broadcast, each Friday at 5:00pm.
The main target audience of this radio programme is workers, supervisors and factory-level managers. This radio show will mainly focus on export-orientated sectors such as ready-made garments, shrimp processing, shoes and leather, said the release.
However, the majority of the issues to be covered are equally relevant to all sectors. A wide range of issues are scheduled to be covered on ‘Labour Hour’ that will provide practical and useful information to listeners, it said.
Subjects will include women’s rights in the workplace; overtime and working hours; festival bonus and leave; safety in the workplace; the role of labour inspectors.
