Dhaka: The Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) pressed charges against five people in the blogger Washiqur Rahman Babu killing case on Wednesday.

DB inspector Shah Mohammad Mashiur Rahman, also the investigation officer of the case, submitted the chargesheet against the five people to the general record officer of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate sub-inspector Altaf Hossain.

The accused are Zikrullah alias Hasan, 19, Ariful Islam, 19, Saiful Islam alias Mansur, 23, Junayed alias Taher, 30 and Abdullah alias Akram Hossain, 26.

Of them, Taher and Abdullah are on the run since the killing on 30 March.

According to the chargesheet, police could not press charges against three other accused-Mamun alias Masud, Sharif and Abrar - for lack of detailed information about them. But when they will be arrested, their names will be included in the chargesheet, it said.

Blogger Washiqur Rahman Babu, 26, who was also an employee of Far East Travels Ltd, was stabbed by a group of assailants, numbering at least three, near South Begunbari Jame Mosque under Tejgaon Industrial police station on 30 March.

Police rescued injured Washiqur and took him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where doctors declared him dead.

Police arrested two of the suspected killers–Zikrullah, 20, a student of Hathazari Madrasah in Chittagong, and Ariful Islam, 20, a student of Mirpur Section-1 Darul Ulum Madrasah–from the area.
