AL lawyers lead Bar Council polls
Dhaka: The ruling Awami League-backed lawyers’ panel Sammilito Ainjibi Samannoy Parishad led in the results of the election to Bangladesh Bar Council, the central body of all the lawyers.
The Sammilito Ainjibi Samannoy Parishad, also known as ‘white panel’ bagged 14 posts while the BNP-back Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Oikko Parishad, the ‘blue panel’, secured 3 posts.
Bar Council chairman and attorney general Mahbubey Alam announced the official result on Thursday morning.
The ballot counting started on Wednesday evening.
The Bar Council election was held on 26 August.
According to the official result, the ‘white panel’ lawyers voted in general seats are — Abdul Baset Mazumder, M Amir-Ul Islam, Abdul Matin Khashru, ZI Khan Panna, SM Rejaul Karim.
However, AL-supported winners of group seats are Nazibullah Hiru, H R Jahid Anwar, Ibrahim Hossain Chowdhury Babul, Parvez Alam Khan, Mohammad Yahia, and Mohammad Rezaul Karim.
The ‘blue panel’ lawyers who secure general seats are Khandaker Mahbub Hossain and Mahbubuddin Khokon while Kaimul Haque Riku won the group seat.
A total of 43,302 voters cast their votes while at least 61 candidates–32 for general posts and 29 for group posts–are contesting in the polls.
Of them, 14 elected members will take the office for the next three years.
