Ong U confesses to link to Arakan Army
Rangamati: One of the three Myanmar nationals arrested earlier on Thursday confessed before a local court to his link to Myanmar insurgent group ‘Arakan Army’.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Quazi Mohammad Mohsen recorded the statement of Ong U Yang Rakhaine under Section 164 of the code of criminal procedure, said assistant police super (Sadar circle) Chitta Ranjan Paul.
In his statement, Ong U told the court that he is a member of Arakan Army.
He also described Dr Renin Su, owner of the house where joint forces conducted the drive in Rajasthali, as a big leader of the rebel group, said the assistant police super.
The court also placed two other accused—Jo Su Aung Marma and Mong
Su Aang Marma - on a three-day fresh remand after the IO of the case
produced them before his court seeking a 10-day remand
Earlier on August 30, a court here placed the three Myanmar nationals on a five-day remand each.
Earlier, tipped off, a team of army and police personnel conducted a joint drive in Kainda union of Rajasthali upazila and arrested Jo Su Aung Marma, 42, and Mong Su Aang Marma, 39, on suspicion of their involvement with the insurgent group of ‘Arakan Army’ around 5am on August 29 .
A case was filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act with Rajasthali Police Station on the day.
On August 27, Ong U Yang Rakhain, also a Myanmar citizen, was arrested in Rajasthali, adjacent to Rangamati-Bandarban border, for his suspected link to Myanmar insurgent group ‘Arakan Army’ following a gunfight between BGB and the insurgent group members in Bandarban district.
