The first US-funded Shahid Minar (Martyrs’ Monument) in the USA has been inaugurated in Paterson, New Jersey recently.  

Consul General of Bangladesh in New York M Shameem Ahsan formally cut the ribbon at the function held on Sunday said a Foreign Ministry media release on Monday. 

Paterson deputy mayor Pedro Rodriguez, council vice-president Ruby Cotton, local councilmen, representatives from Passic county office, elected US officials, representatives, and a good number of members of the Bangladesh community were, among others, present on the occasion. 

The Shahid Minar in New Jersey is the first one in the USA which is fully funded by the local US authorities and its land is provided by the host government.

The Bangladesh community in Houston, Texas earlier built a Shahid Minar which was, however, fully funded by the community itself.
