Dhaka: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina goes to Khulna on Sunday on a daylong visit on the occasion of commissioning and induction of new ships in Bangladesh Navy (BN).

It will be her first visit to Khulna after the Awami League government took office for the second consecutive term in the last general elections held on 5 January 2014.

The prime minister will first go to Mongla from Dhaka to join the commissioning function of three BN Ships— KJ Ali, Sandwip and Hatia—, PM's Press Wing sources said.

She will also attend the induction ceremony of two landing craft tanks— LCT-103 and LCT-105— there.

Later, Sheikh Hasina will visit Khulna Shipyard to inaugurate the keel-laying of two large patrol craft, and a container vessel, Nou Kalyan-1.

The premier is scheduled to return to the capital in the afternoon, the sources said.

Sheikh Hasina last visited Khulna on 24 January 2013.

Meanwhile, a foolproof security measure has been undertaken in Khulna ahead of the visit of the Prime Minister, BSS correspondent from Khulna reported.

Apart from plainclothes security personnel, two thousand policemen and eight special teams of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) will perform their duty during the visit of the Prime Minister, KMP Deputy Commissioner Sheikh Moniruzzaman Mithu told the BSS correspondent.
