Aman gets bail in 5 cases
Dhaka: The High Court on Sunday granted interim bail to BNP joint secretary general Amanullah Aman in five violence cases filed with different police stations in the capital.
An HC bench comprising Justice M Rezaul Haque and Justice Mohammad Khasruzzaman passed the order after hearing a petition.
Adv Joynul Abedin and adv Sagir Hossain Leon stood for Aman while Deputy Attorney General Fazlur Rahman represented the state.
Adv Leon said two cases were filed against Aman with Mohammadpur Police Station while three others were filed with Paltan, Motijheel and Mugda police stations in January and February for obstructing police from discharging their duties, arson attacks on vehicles and vandalism during the BNP-led 20-party alliance’s blockade and hartal programme.
The bench granted bail to the BNP leader in Mohammadpur and Paltan Police Stations until the submission of police report while Aman secured bail in the rest cases until a rule is disposed of.
On 2 August, the BNP leader was sent to jail after he surrendered before a lower court seeking bail in 69 violence cases.
Meanwhile, a four-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice SK Sinha upheld the HC order that granted bail for three months to Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) mayor and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's adviser MA Mannan in two cases filed with Joydebpur and Kaliakoir police stations, paving the way for his release from jail.
On 21 July, An HC vacation bench comprising Justice Sayed Ziaul Karim and Justice Jafar Ahmed granted bail for three months to Gazipur mayor MA Mannan.
On 11 February, detectives picked MA Mannan up from his DOHS residence in Baridhara of the capital in connection with a petrol bomb attack in a bus in Gazipur on 4 February.
Six cases were filed against the mayor with Joydevpur, Kaliakoir and Sreepur police stations on various charges.
