VoIP equipment worth Tk 10cr seized
Dhaka: Customs Intelligence officials have seized huge illegal Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) equipment worth Tk 10 crore at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
Briefing reporters at the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) office, its Director General Mainul Khan said ‘Sadia Trading Corporation’ brought a consignment of VoIP equipment from Hong Kong by a cargo flight on 10 August last declaring those as computer accessories.
The equipment in 118 cartons had been lying inside the airport for nearly a month, but no one claimed the responsibility, he said.
In the meantime, customs intelligence officials also did not find ‘Sadia Trading Corporation’ in the address provided by it for bringing the apparatus.
Finally, a team of the intelligence officials opened the cartons on Monday only to find huge VoIP equipment of 32 kinds, Mainul Khan said.
A three-member probe committee has been formed to investigate the matter, the CIID chief added.
