25 injured in inter-group clash

Pabna: At least 25 people were injured in an attack by a rival group over establishing supremacy in Shanikdia area of Sadar upazila of Pabna on Monday night.
The Sadar police said Aslam Hossain, general secretary of the Hemayetpur union unit of the ruling Awami League, had long been at loggerheads with Panna Sarkar, another local leader of the party, over establishing domain in Shanikdia Market area.
As a sequel to the enmity, supporters of Aslam Hossain made a swoop on the supporters of Panna and opened fire at about 10:00pm while the latter were gossiping at a tea stall in the market, leaving at least 25 people injured.
Fifteen of them received bullet wounds.
The attackers also vandalised several shops and houses.
Police went in and brought the situation under control.
The injured were taken to Pabna Medical College Hospital from where Billal Hossain was shifted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital as his condition started deteriorating.
However, Rezaul Rahim Lal, senior vice president of Pabna district AL, said it is not any party conflict.
