Arrested Jamaat-Shibir leaders ‘confess’ to planning subversive acts
Dhaka: The Jamaat-Shibir leaders, who were arrested from a secret meeting in the capital’s Mirpur area on Monday, have reportedly confessed to planning to carry out subversive activities in the readymade garment (RMG) sector ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.
Monirul Islam, Joint Commissioner of the Detective Branch (DB), said this while talking to reporters at a press briefing at DMP media centre on Tuesday.
The arrested Jamaat-Shibir members will be brought before the court seeking 10-day police custody for questioning each, he added.
He also said the police are still reviewing the leaflets and books seized from their processions and if any seditious writing is detected in it, cases will be filed against them in this connection.
Earlier on Monday, 13 leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir, including two former Jamaat lawmakers Mia Golam Parwar of Khulna 5 constituency and Mujibur Rahman of Rajshahi, were arrested from a secret meeting in Mirpur area of Dhaka.
The Pallabi police said two cases were filed in this connection under Explosive Substance Act and Special Act on 7 September night.
The cases were shifted to the DB on Tuesday morning.
