Dhaka: Police seized 49 rear species of turtles from Azampur kitchen market in the city’s Dakkhin Khan area on Wednesday afternoon.

Police also arrested two people in this connection.

Tipped-off, a team of Dakkhin Khan Police Station challenged a microbus near Azampur kitchen market at around 5:30 pm, said officer-in-charge of the police station Shamim-ur-Rashid Talukder.

He said searching the microbus, police recovered 49 turtles of ‘rare species’, kept hidden inside several luggage.

The turtle-consignment was supposed to be smuggled out of the country, the OC suspected.
