Kishoreganj: An auto-rickshaw driver was burnt to death allegedly by some spoiled young men at Amati Shibpur village in Kishoreganj Sadar upazila on Thursday night.

The deceased is Shamim, in his twenties.

Family sources said some young men of the area had been using the fish enclosure of Nindu Miah, adjacent to Shamim’s house, for taking drugs and conducting unsocial activities.

Shamim used to raise objections over their activities.

On Wednesday, the youths locked into altercation with Shamim over the matter and assaulted him.

On Thursday night, the youths picked up Shamim when he was returning home with his auto-rickshaw. They took him to the fish enclosure and set him on fire with petrol after tying up his hands and legs.

After hearing Shamim’s scream, local people rushed in and rescued him.

He was taken to a local hospital first where doctors referred him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH). He succumbed to his injuries on way to DMCH, said Kishoreganj model police officer-in-charge Mir Mosharraf Hossain.
