General diary filed over fake NTV, Mosaddak Ali’s social media pages
Dhaka: A group of reprobates has been operating fake accounts and fan pages pretending the private television channel NTV on social media especially on Facebook. The miscreants have been using NTV chairman and managing director Alhaj Mohammad Mosaddak Ali’s name, the channel’s logo to serve their dubious purposes. They are spreading misleading information among common people through posting pejorative news, photos, and videos on these fake pages. Two separate general diaries (GD) have been filed with police in this connection.
Head of Human Resources and Administration of NTV Sultana A. Banu filed the diaries with Tejgaon Police Station on 24 August 2015 on behalf of Mosaddak Ali.
Besides, applications have been submitted to Prime Minister’s office secretary, Information Ministry’s secretary, Information and Communications Technology secretary, Home Ministry’s secretary, Police Special Branch (SB) additional inspector general, National Security Intelligence (NSI) director general, Director General of Force Intelligence (DGFI) director general, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) director general, Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) chairman to take action against these fake pages.
The GD quotes, ‘We have come to know that derogative news, photos, and videos are being posted on Facebook in the name of NTV, using its logo, which has been done completely without our concern, and we are not affiliated with any of these pages. The only verified page of NTV on Facebook is www.facebook.com/ntvdigital. All the posts on this page are regulated and controlled by NTV. However, anyone can comment on these posts and whenever we find any disapproving comments, replies or activities, we delete them immediately’.
The GD also includes, Association of Television Channel Owner’s (ATCO) president of Alhaj Mohammad Mosaddak Ali is a veteran politician, an activist in economic sector, and social development of the country, and a cultural minded person. Recently, we have noticed that several pages are active on Facebook faking Alhaj Mosaddak Ali’s name and photo. These pages have no connection with Alhaj Mohammad Mosaddak Ali’.
NTV or Mohammad Mosaddak Ali is not responsible for any information circulated from these fake pages. The channel authorities requested the law enforcers to take necessary steps in this regard.

NTV authorities do not have any affiliation with other Facebook pages except the above mentioned pages. NTV authorities will not bear any responsibilities if any person or page propagates, publishes any misleading and distorted information from the fake Facebook accounts and/or pages.
Moreover, spreading fallacious information through faking others’ name on Facebook is a punishable offence in ICT Act. The NTV authorities filed GD with Police with an aim to see legal actions against such activities.
With the slogan ‘Somoyer Sathe Agamir Pothe’ (Towards the future), the journey of NTV started on 3 July 2003. A plethora of news and entertainment programmes for viewers made the channel a popular one within a short span of time. NTV has extended its transmission in the UK, the USA, Canada, Australia, and Middle East to spread Bengali culture and heritage in the international arena. The channel received ISO 9001:2008 certificate, for the first time as a private television channel in Bangladesh, on 8 September 2011.
A new feature has been added to the success of NTV recently. From 1 February 2015, NTV launched NTV Online (ntvbd.com), a bi-lingual infotainment portal to keep update people about latest news, entertainment programmes, sports, tech, travel, automobile, lifestyle, education, and a lot more.
