Hanif wants withdrawal of VAT on education

Natore: Government should withdraw the value added tax, recently imposed on private universities and private medical and engineering colleges, said ruling Awami League joint general secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif on Sunday.
Addressing a commemoration of the 20th anniversary of death of Natore district Awami League president Shankar Gobinda Chowdhury, Hanif said the government should not spend Tk 6,000 crore to earn only Tk 60 crore.
He complained that some BNP leaders had been instigating the students’ protests.
The programme was addressed, among others, by the commemoration committee president Osman Ali, Natore-1 constitution lawmaker Abul Kalam Azad, Natore-2 constitution lawmaker Shafiqul Islam Shimul, Natore-4 lawmaker Abdul Kuddus.
