Mymensingh declared 8th division of Bangladesh
Dhaka: Mymensingh has been declared as the eighth administrative division of Bangladesh.
National Implementation Committee for Administrative Reorganization-Reform (NICAR) approved Mymensingh district as division on Monday in a meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair. The meeting was held immediately after the regular meeting of the Cabinet.
After the meeting, the Cabinet secretary Mohammad Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan said the division will comprise Mymensingh, Jamalpur, Sherpur, and Netrakona districts.
The new division has a population of around 1, 16, 70,000 people.
The Cabinet secretary said the government has a plan to introduce Faridpur as division, and also another division comprising Noakhali and Comilla.
Earlier, on 26 January, the Cabinet approved on principle the draft of a proposal to declare Mymensingh as a separate division.
