Tangail: The by-election to Tangail-4 constituency will be held on 28 October, announced Election Commission (EC) on Tuesday.

According to the schedule, the last date for filing nomination is 30 September, scrutiny of the nomination papers will be held on 3 October and the deadline for withdrawing candidacy is 11 October.

The constituency fell vacant following the resignation former posts and telecommunication minister Abdul Latif Siddique from the parliament on 1 September.

Earlier, Abdul Latif, was dropped from the cabinet and stripped off his membership of the ruling Awami League in October 2014 amid waves of criticism following his derogatory remarks on hajj and Tabligh Jamaat in the USA last year.
