Shimulia-Kawrakandi ferry service to resume from 21 Sep
Dhaka: Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan on Saturday said ferry services on Shimulia-Kawrakandi river route in Munshiganj district will resume from 21 September.
Special measures have been taken to make the journey of the home-bound people on this route hassle free ahead of Eid-ul-Azha, he said.
The minister told this to journalists while he was visiting Shimulia Ferry Terminal.
Close Circuit (CC) cameras have been installed in Shimulia Ferry Terminal in order to beef up the security, he added.
The Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) started dredging the river route recently as the route lost much of its navigability.
Later, the minister also visited several ferry terminals in Shariatpur.
Officials of the BIWTA and local administration, among others, were present during his visit.
