Dhaka: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday ruled out the possibility of the emergence of radicalisation in Bangladesh saying that the government is very much alert in this regard.

‘There’s no possibility of the emergence of radicalisation in Bangladesh. Our intelligence and law enforcement agencies are very much active and alert to thwart that,’ she said.

The Prime Minister made the comments when visiting French Foreign Minister and International Development Laurent Fabius and German Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs Frank-Walter Steinmeier met her at her official residence Ganobhaban.

After the meeting, PM's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim briefed reporters.

The Prime Minister mentioned that the military dictators after grabbing power following the assassination of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman excluded secularism from the Constitution though it was one of the principles of the Charter.

‘But, our government has restored it with the 15th amendment to the Constitution.’

She also mentioned that the country’s apex court also declared illegal the capture of power in an unconstitutional way.

About the relations with neighbouring countries, the Prime Minister said Bangladesh maintains good relations with its neighbours. ‘We’ve resolved many problems with our neighbours through discussions,’she said.

When the French and German foreign ministers wanted to know about the condition of Bangladesh garment sector, the Prime Minister said her government has taken initiatives for the welfare of garment workers.

Hasina told the minister that the government and private sector are working together to ensure the welfare of the country's four million RMG workers. ‘Our policy is to ensure the welfare of the people,’ she added.

In this connection, Hasina elaborated her government measures to ensure the safety and security of garment workers and mentioned that garment factory owners are aware about it.

She said Bangladesh's RMG industry has the highest capacity to produce RMG products compared to other countries.

Both the foreign ministers discussed with the Prime Minister about the issues of climate change and migration. ‘We’ve taken both the issues seriously,’ they said.

Highly appreciating Bangladesh's impressive success on all socioeconomic fronts the two foreign ministers said the people of the country are very much active for further development of the country.

Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali, PM's International Affairs Adviser Gowher Rizvi and PMO secretary Suraiya Begum were, among others, present.
