Dhaka: Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed on Thursday said European Union (EU) has expressed their satisfaction over the development of business climate in Bangladesh.

Terming the EU as an important development partner of Bangladesh, he said the EU has expressed their keenness to expand trade and investment in  Bangladesh.

The minister passed the remarks at the joint press briefing after the second Bangladesh-EU Business Climate Dialogue at the ministry conference room.

Mentioning the establishment of 100 special economic zones (EPZs) across the country, Tofail said development of those EPZs is going on and if the EU invests to the EPZs, government would provide necessary assistances.

He said five working groups are running their activities to find out ongoing problems and solve those logically.

The five groups are on pharmaceutical, financial flow, import duty customs trade facilitation, license and investment in the service sector and
tax regime.

"Ongoing problems are being solved through discussion," added the commerce minister.

Terming the dialogue as satisfactory, Head of EU Delegations Pierre Mayaudon said both the parties have successfully discussed to eliminate
different barriers for trade.

He said dialogue would be continued in the working group to ease trade.

Senior Commerce Secretary Hedayetullah Al Mamoon and high officials of the ministry were present in Bangladesh side while French Ambassador Sophie Prinz, German Ambassador Thomas Heinrich Prinz, Spain Ambassador Eduardo del Roasal de Leiglesia, Sweden Ambassador Johan Frisell Mikaell, Denmark Ambassador Hemniti Winther, Netherland Ambassador Leoni Cuelenaere and UK High Commissioner Mark Clayton were in EU side.
