Dhaka: The Appellate division of the Supreme Court (SC) on Wednesday fixed July 25 for hearing on an appeal filed against a High Court (HC) order that declared the amended constitution of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) illegal.

A three-member SC bench, headed by Chief Justice SK Sinha ,fixed the date in the morning.

On January 27, 2013, an HC bench declared the amended constitution of the BCB illegal after hearing of a writ petition.

On the following day, the National Sports Council (NSC) and the BCB filed a petition seeking stay order on the HC verdict. Later, the Chamber Judge stayed the HC order.

The Chamber Judge also sent the petition to the full bench of the Appellate Division fixing February 7 for hearing.

According to the writ petition, BCB sent its constitution to NSC for an amendment after taking opinions from the councilors at a meeting on November, 2012.

Later, NSC sent the constitution back to BCB after making amendment on it.

However, NSC amended the constitution again taking suggestions from the high officials of BCB.

Following the incident, Engineer Mobasshwer Hossain, former BCB director, and Yousuf Jamil Babu, president of Bangladesh District and Divisional Sports Organisers' Forum, filed the writ petition with the HC challenging the legality of the amendment on December 13, 2012.

Later, the HC issued a rule in this regard on the same day.
