Why Health Insurance Is Equally Important?

It goes true to every living creature that the moment it reaches a certain point of maturity it starts to decay. So are we, our body is not designed to last long. In the bible verse we are to last between 70-80 (Psalms 90:10 As for the days of our life, they contain seventy years, Or if due to strength, eighty years, Yet their pride is but labor and sorrow; For soon it is gone and we fly away). While others claim it to be 120 years of age. The mother of my grand mother was alive when I was on my high school years which if I have the figures correct she died at the age of 100 or so. While time flies so fast and the world is changing. We came to a point where everything is made at an instant, from coffee, to milk, fruits are mass produced, almost everything is created unnaturally and that is why life span begins to shorten. What is 80, as the lifespan is now 60 or less. Worse you get sick prior to your sweet death. We have not accounted yet pollution and of course, stress. Yet we always ignore them. I often hear in most people "di naman ako nagkakasakit”, “may HMO or Health Card naman ako”. Most common excuse I've heared from many when in fact they know they will get sick sooner or later but their main issue is that they just don’t want to make adjustment in the way they live because of that added cost. Then it becomes even costly:

Here are different scenarios:

1. Di ka magkakasakit (I won’t get sick) - thats an in-denial.

2. You have HMO Coverage - Well I hope the your company will continue on paying your coverage even when you are no longer working with them.

Most of us are dependent to our employer, that’s why loosing our job becomes one of the biggest fear. But have you really wonder how much it will cost you to get sick? When I had tonsillitis and I asked for confinement they charge my card Php20,000 just for 3 days, by the way that was back in 2007. Lucky I had that HMO card, but that is nothing compared to critical illness thats becoming popular now a days. Cancer for example, Chemo drug would take about 100k depending on the hospital and the number of times you have to take it not including the test, admission charges, doctors fee and cost during recovery period. So if you think your PHP200,000 per sickness coverage HMO/Health card will cover you for all the costs, I’m sure you will end up broke the moment you live. Also try not to rely on Philhealth or you will end up on more disappointments, as they can only cover few thousands from your bill.

3. And then you say may business naman ako / saving /investments. - If only we can look into the future and know if we’d get sick or not and what time and type, you would not be reading this. We know for the fact that eventually we will get sick it is just a question of time. If you get sick a month after you put up the business or when you are about to recover cost, what do you think? If you get sick and what it will take from is the 10 hard earn years worth of investment/saying, would you be happy?Have you ever talked to someone recently out in the hospital and asked her the amount of money that went out of the pocket?

Once again, like your health in preparation is better than cure. Your savings only good for a week when critical illness strikes you. The fact are given, by covering yourself a health insurance you have saved yourself a lot from money, time and stress. Lastly, look for an insurance that will cover you for the rest of your life.
