Dhaka: Workers of a readymade garment factory on Monday demanded that the factory be reopened immediately and their back pay be cleared.
Workers of Ruhul Garments Ltd situated at Kajla of Jatrabari area in Dhaka came up with the demand from a rally staged in front of the Jaitya Press Club under the banner of Jago Bangladesh Garments Sramik Federation (JBGSF).
JBGSF general secretary Md Mostofa, vice president Syedul Gani and several workers of Ruhul Garments Ltd spoke at the rally with JBGSF president Baharane Sultane Bahar in the chair.
Speaking on the occasion, Baharane Sultane Bahar alleged that owners shut down the Ruhul Garments Ltd on 15 November without prior notice and paying salaries and bonuses of the workers pending for four months from August to November.
He demanded that all arrears be paid to the workers and the factory be reopened immediately.
Workers said they have been living a miserable life for the last four months without money and job.
They also threatened to go for a tougher agitation if their demand is not met.
