BD July-Nov exports to Europe, other countries post good records

The country’s export to key European destinations like Germany, the UK, Italy, France showed good performance during the July-November period of the current fiscal (2015-16) compared to the same period of the previous fiscal, reported the United News of Bangladesh.
During the July-November of the current fiscal, export to Germany, the second largest destination of Bangladesh exportable items, totalled $ 1875.82 million, which was 14.56 per cent of the total export earnings for the period.
Of the amount, knitwear accounted for $ 1046.45 million, woven garment $ 692.73 million and frozen shrimp $ 32.56 million, according to latest figures released by the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB).
The EPB figures showed that exports to the UK during July-November totalled $ 1425.40 million, which was 11.07 per cent of the total export earnings for the five-month period.
The export of woven garment to the UK during this five-month period were $ 624.81 million, knitwear $680.45 million, home textile export to the UK during the period was $ 30.30 million, frozen shrimps $ 37.07 million and bicycles $ 19.23 million.
Exports to France during the July-November period of the current fiscal increased to $ 672.13 million, which accounted for 5.22 per cent of the total export earnings for the period.
Exports to Italy totalled $ 518.33 million this July-November with knitwear accounting for $ 297.35 million, woven garment $ 177.98 million and leather, leather products and footwear with $ 25.43 million.
Exports to Belgium amounted to $ 380.28 million that included knitwear $ 165.54 million, woven garment $ 133.32 million and frozen shrimp $ 35.63 +million.
Export earnings from the USA, the largest market for Bangladesh goods, registered a robust growth of 16.79 per cent in July-November of the current fiscal totalling $ 2460.97 million, which was 19.10 per cent of the total export earnings for the five-month period.
The Netherlands, another big export destination for Bangladesh, imported goods form Bangladesh worth $ 314.20 million during the July-November period. The amount included knitwear $ 123.58 million, woven garment $ 108.20 million and frozen shrimp $ 41.54 million.
Among the other European, the Middle East, Far East and South Asian countries, exports to Russia fetched $ 98.88 million during the first five months of the current fiscal while that of Japan totalled $ 420.16 million, Singapore $ 75.66 million and China $ 283.22 million.
Of the South Asian countries, exports to India amounted to $ 266.05 million during the July-November period that included jute and jute made goods $ 104.71 million and woven garment $ 37.89 million.
