Initiatives sought for boosting Bangladesh’s trade with Thailand

Dhaka: Bangladesh Ambassador to Thailand Saida Muna Tasneem on Saturday urged the Bangladeshi business leaders to take initiatives for boosting trade and investment between the two countries.
Tasneem, also Bangladesh Ambassador to Cambodia and Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to UNESCAP, laid emphasis on building a positive image in Thailand so that Bangladesh can attract more Thai investment to Bangladesh.
She made the call during her meeting with leaders of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) at the FBCCI Bhaban.
FBCCI Directors and other chamber and association leaders attended the meeting held with its Vice President Mahbubul Alam in the chair.
The Ambassador also urged the business leaders representing jute, pharmaceuticals, leather, furniture and other sectors to attend the three-day fair, ‘Trade and Investment Expo’, to be held in Thailand on 30 May to 1 June for the first time.
Describing the potentials of tourism sector in Bangladesh, she urged tour operators to take initiatives for bringing Thai tourists to Bangladesh’s tourist spots (Buddhists heritage) in Ramu, Khagrachari and Bandarban.
Mahbubul Alam said the businesspeople of the two countries need to strengthen their ties to reduce the trade gap and boost Bangladesh’s export to Thailand.
He also laid emphasis on establishing air connectivity between the important cities of the two countries.
The FBCCI Vice President also urged the Thai authorities to ease visa process for Bangladeshi businesspeople.
Bangladesh exported goods worth US$ 32.76 million while imported products worth US$ 680.50 million in 2014-2015 fiscal year.
