Dhaka: A huge number of visitors ushered in the Dhaka International Trade Fair (DITF) 2019 on its opening day.

Visitors flocked to the country's biggest trade exhibition with their friends and family members to make their purchases and use the opportunity for some recreation, reports the UNB.

An array of local and foreign products were on display including electronics, cloths, leather goods, export-quality ready-made garments, furniture, plastic products, handcrafts and food items.

The visitors said they came there to visit the fair and see new products of the year.

Masuda Rana, Rasel Ahmed and Rokonuzzaman Hasnat, Mathematics Department students of Dhaka College, said they came there to look around the fairground and enjoy the day.

President Abdul Hamid inaugurated the fair in the afternoon at Sher-E-Bangla Nagar in the city, the first one to be inaugurated by the Head of state.

Abdul Hakim, a salesman of Parity Enterprise said as the first day they got good response compared to last year.
"Every year the fair is opened in the morning but this year has opened so late at 5PM. However, we get many customers,” he said.

As the first time, visitors are getting online ticketing advantage. They can purchase ticket by mobile internet.

Imran Mahmud Shamim, CEO of Vallicon digital software firm said, visitors can purchase their tickets from Thursday online for the first time. There are two types of tickets, price Tk 30 and Tk 20.

"All stall and pavilions works will be completed within several days. Some foreign exhibitors cannot set up properly yet. We sent letter to customs department to release foreign products very soon. We hope the fair will be all set up within one week,"  Member secretary of the fair and EPB deputy secretary Mohammad Abdur Rouf told UNB.

The EPB and Commerce Ministry have been organising the month-long annual fair since 1995.
