BB announces Tk 100cr for women entrepreneurs

Dhaka: Bangladesh Bank Governor Atiur Rahman on Sunday said the central bank has formed a special fund of Tk 100 crore for women entrepreneurs.

He disclosed the information during the inauguration of the DCCI Entrepreneurship Development Project (E2K) training programme for skill development of women entrepreneurs at the DCCI auditorium organised by Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) in association with the Bangladesh Bank.

Atiur Rahman said Bangladesh Bank has also initiated a project titled Skills for Employment Investment Programme (SEIP) to provide training to 10,000 new entrepreneurs.

The governor said clear instructions have been given to the scheduled banks to promote women entrepreneurs.

Praising the leadership, creativity and hard work of the women, he said they have started positively influencing the country’s economic development. In 2015, loans of Tk. 115,870 crore were disbursed to 725,000 small and medium women entrepreneurs.

DCCI President Hossain Khaled said they are continuing this project in order to facilitate young, new and innovative entrepreneurs in the country.

Hossain Khaled gave the ‘Memento’ to the Governor. Then some women entrepreneurs took part in the open discussion session and shared their views with the Governor of Bangladesh Bank. A documentary film titled “400 years’ History of commercialization in Dhaka” was launched.

DCCI Senior Vice President Humayun Rashid gave the vote of thanks in the event. Women entrepreneurs took part in the open discussion session and shared their views with the governor.

DCCI Vice President K. Atique-e-Rabbani, FCA, Directors AKD Khair Mohammad Khan, Osman Gani, Md. Alauddin Malik and Secretary General AHM Rezaul Kabir were also present during the program.
