Dhaka: Beximco Pharmaceuticals on Thursday marked their first ever export of pharmaceuticals to the lucrative US market by sending a shipment of Carvedilol, a prescription drug for treating hypertension.

In November last year the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved Beximco to sell its products in the US.

The pharmaceutical company organised an event marking the occasion at the city’s Le Meridien Hotel.

Addressing the occasion, Finance Minister AMA Muhith said one of the toughest regulatory bodies of the US is the FDA.

“You can get many things approved in many other countries but in the USA it must be full-proof only then the Food and Drug Administration will accept it,” UNB quoted him as saying.

The minister congratulated Beximco Pharmaceuticals as they brought glory for the country by getting approval of the FDA.

Health Minister Mohammad Nasim said “we want that Bangladesh would move forward. The people of the country are very industrious. They would never bow down to any threat and panic.”

Vice Chairman of Beximco Group Salman F Rahman, Managing Director of Beximco Pharmaceuticals Nazmul Hassan, among others, spoke on the occasion.
