Remittance flow rises in March

Dhaka: After a slight fall in February, the inflow of remittances picked up again as the expatriate Bangladeshis sent home $ 1,332.40 million in March, which is 12% or $ 142.80 million higher than the month of February this year.
The country received a total $ 1,189.60 million worth of remittance in February.
According to the latest data of Bangladesh Bank (BB), expatriates sent $ 11,252.40 million during the nine months of the current fiscal 2014-15, which is $ 757.20 million higher than the same period of the last fiscal’s $ 10,495.20 million.
In March, the state-owned four commercial banks combine carried remittance of $ 435.29 million, private commercial banks $ 864.17 million while $ 17.17 million was injected through four specialized banks and $ 15.88 million by nine foreign commercial banks.
Islami Bank Bangladesh Ltd. channelled the highest $ 339.68 million remittance, followed by state-owned Sonali Bank which brought $142.02 million.
