Bangladesh offers to set up fertiliser factory in Iran

Dhaka: Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu has expressed Bangladesh’s interest to set up a urea fertiliser factory in Iran under a joint venture project.
Amu conveyed the offer during a meeting with Iran’s Isfahan Province Governor General Rasoul Zargarpour at the governor's office, according a message received here on Monday.
The minister said a renowned international company can also be made a third partner of the joint venture project alongside the two countries.
He said allocation of a land near Chabahar Sea Port for the factory will be suitable.
The minister underscored the need for intensifying the economic and commercial relations between the two nations through increasing industrialisation and investment both in private and public sectors.
He said Bangladesh government has taken a liberal policy to attract direct foreign investment. ‘Special economic zones are being set up for foreign investors alongside giving them special incentives.’
Amu urged Iranian entrepreneurs to invest in the economic zones.
He also expressed eagerness to import railway wagons from Iran to transport ammonia gas for fertiliser factories in Bangladesh.
Rasoul Zargarpour welcomed Bangladesh proposal for setting up the fertiliser factory and assured Amu that Iran's government will take necessary steps to implement the project.
