Dhaka: Bangladesh Bank has instructed all banks and financial institutions to keep ready lists of loan defaulters to help scrutinise candidates contesting the district council (Zila Parishad) elections. 

Financial Institutions and Markets Department of the central bank issued a circular on Sunday in this regard.

The circular said the Election Commission Secretariat in a letter requested Bangladesh Bank to perfectly preserve and present the information of loan defaulters to the respective returning officers of the district council elections to declare the defaulters ineligible for the election. 

It also asked the officials of the banks and financial institutions to stay in their respective offices even on holidays to provide information to the returning officers until the scrutiny is completed.
