Dhaka: Finance minister AHM Muhith on Monday said the government will bring all those who have houses and private cars in the capital under tax net.

‘We'll conduct a survey in this regard...and then taxes will be imposed on them (house and car owners in the capital,’ he told reporters at Padma State Guesthouse in the capital at about 9:30pm after a pre-budget meeting.

The meeting was held with a cross-section of people, including businessmen and lawmakers.  Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr Atiur Rahman was also present.

About the meeting, Muhith said the meeting suggested allowing people to invest their undisclosed money, but he did not make any comment in this regard.

The finance minister said the meeting discussed the unusual rise in the number of freedom fighters as it is growing after every counting.

‘Once there were only 1.7 lakh freedom fighters... Now the number has just doubled...freedom fighters are not produced every day,’ he said.

The minister said the meeting also suggested withdrawing tax on Sim cards and rationalisation of corporate tax.
