Dhaka: Bangladesh and India expressed strong commitment to solve the various problems that the two countries have been facing for long to boost bilateral trade and businesses.

The commitment was expressed at the secretary level meeting held on Sunday at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel in Dhaka, reports BSS.

“We have discussions on various trade related issues. We tried to resolve issues that are pending and we hope very strongly that our friendship will be strengthened further through this talk”, Bangladesh Commerce Secretary Hedayetullah Al-Mamoon told journalists after the end of first day discussion of the two-day meeting.

He said that the trade agreement between Bangladesh and India had already been finalised, and with that framework agreement other protocols would also be signed.

“We hope our discussion today will help strengthen further our brotherly relations”, Mamoon said.

Commenting on the outcomes of the meeting at the joint briefing at Sonargaon Hotel, Commerce Secretary of India Rajiv Kher said they met on the bilateral forum and the whole idea was to discuss trade issues which are relevant for both the countries.

“We exchanged views on variety of issues, primarily driven by two objectives. One objective is to see how India and Bangladesh develop stronger trade relationships bilaterally and to see how problems which come in way of bilateral trade are sorted out”, he said.

Kher further said that they had discussed the ways of integrating our economic markets in a manner that we benefit from each-other strengths and capacities so that we can together play a role in the regional and global economy.

“Our meeting was very useful, fruitful and very productive and we would follow the issues we discussed and decided”, he said.
