Dhaka: A three-day fair titled ‘Development Fair’ will be held in all districts and upazilas of Bangladesh on January 9-11 to display the ongoing development successes and incorporate people with government’s development activities.

The fair will play an important role in promoting government’s future plans, partnering people in implementing Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), said the organisers.

It will help identify local problems and formulate plans and their implementation ideas through mutual discussions among public representatives, political leaders, government officials and people.

Various government and non-government organisations, banks, insurance companies and other financial institutions will take part in the fair.

The Development Fair will be held with the support from the Prime Minister’s Office for highlighting the various development activities and its success before the country people taken by the current government.

President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina issued separate messages on the forthcoming Development Fair.

In his message, President Hamid said Bangladesh is now striding towards the highway of growth and development and building an equitable society. “I firmly believe that Bangladesh will transform into a prosperous and developed country before 2041.”

He hoped that all country people would render dedicated contributions from their respective positions to materialise the dream of Bangabandhu. “I wish the Development Fair 2017 a grand success.”

He mentioned that the mega project of the Padma Bridge is underway from Bangladesh’s own resources. “I’m confident that our country will be able to achieve the targets of the SDGs by 2030 which has been taken to eradicate extreme poverty along with attaining sustainable development.”

The Prime Minister in her message said the government has been working relentlessly to improve the living standard of the people. “We’ve already graduated to the lower middle-income country. Our aim is to establish Bangladesh a middle-income country by 2021 and a development and prosperous one by 2041.”

She said the government’s various development initiatives, including one house one farm, community clinic, women empowerment, houses for all, education aid, digital Bangladesh, environment protection, investment growth, social safety net and electricity to every household will be highlighted in the exhibition.

“Let’s engage ourselves and work together irrespective of party affiliation or opinion and build a developed, prosperous, beautiful and habitable Bangladesh for our future generations,” said the Prime Minister welcoming all the associated with the Development Fair.

Seminars, symposiums, documentary film screening, photo and poster exhibitions and cultural programmes will be arranged during the Development Fair.
