The sale of cooling appliances has been witnessing a rise for the last few days as people are looking for such appliances in different retail markets due to the sweltering heat that has put the life of people in a misery.

During a visit to different retail shops at Mohammadpur, Dhanmondi, and Bangabandhu National Stadium Market of Gulistan, it was found that people from different classes, mostly belonging to middle class societies were looking for cooling appliances, like air conditioner and air coolers.

The clients are mostly looking for air conditioners, while the people, who cannot afford to spend a large amount of money, are purchasing air coolers by spending Tk6000 to Tk13000, market insiders says.

Local brands like Walton, Marcel, and Singer are the key players while Sony-Rangs, LG-Butterfly, General air conditioner are now the key player in the sector.

Market insiders said that customers prefers to buy air conditioner and appliances from Walton, a local manufacturer as the products are comparatively low priced than others.

“I have been purchasing different products from the company as they are affordable and I can pay the money through installments,” said Rezaul Karim, a service holder who came to visit the stadium market.

Admitting the fact, manager of Walton a exclusive showroom Alok Bosh said the sales has witnessed a rise and people are happy with the products as the price of the air conditioners starts from Tk32000, which is the lowest in the market.

Executive Director (marketing) of Walton Md. Emdadul Haque Sarkar said the company has increased its manufacturing volume this year considering the sudden hike of demands in last year.

“This year, we have enough stock to meet the demands. People can buy their preferable products by from Tk32000 to Tk55700 from different outlets with installment benefits,” he said.

The company is offering a six-month replacement guarantee along with three years’ service warrantee for the air conditioners, he added.

The Singer is also providing different types of cash discounts in their different type of air conditioning products.

Currently, grand summer sale is ongoing at the LG-Butterfly where people can avail different cash discounts in every product.

“People can avail discount benefit in all our showrooms. There is 3% to 30% discount ongoing in every showroom across the country,” said Mosharraf Iqbal from LG-Butterfly customer information center.
