Budget session begins tomorrow

Dhaka: All preparations have already been taken for the sixth session (budget session) of the 10th Parliament, scheduled to begin at 5:30pm on Monday.

President Abdul Hamid summoned the sixth session of the incumbent parliament according to the clause (1) of article 72 of the Constitution on 11 May.

Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith will place the national budget for 2015-16 fiscal year at 4:00pm on 4 June with the parliament Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair, said a parliament secretariat source.

The duration and proceedings of the session will be finalised at parliamentary business advisory committee, to be chaired by the Speaker at 4:00pm on 1 June.

Besides, the budget related proceedings, the source said numbers of important bills are expected to be placed and passed during the session.

The size of the upcoming budget is likely to be Taka 1.97 lakh crore with the target of 7.6% GDP growth.

Earlier, the fifth session of Parliament was held between 19 January to 2 April.

President Abdul Hamid addressed the parliament at the fifth session as it was the first session of the year.

Two hundred and thirty-six lawmakers from ruling and opposition parties took part at 60.5 hours discussion on the President’s speech in 37 working days. Eight out of eleven bills were passed during the total 39 working days of the fifth session, the Parliament source added
