Sangsad Bhaban: The 21st session (budget session) of the 10th Parliament was prorogued on Thursday.

The session passed the national budget for 2018-19 fiscal, supplementary budget for 2017-18 and 14 bills, including the 17th Constitutional Amendment ones, in its 25 working days, reports the UNB.

Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury read out the prorogation order of the President at 6:40pm.

Before reading out the prorogation order, Dr Shirin sincerely thanked all the MPs, including the opposition ones, for providing all-out cooperation in running the session and reaching a consensus in a unique way in upholding the parliamentary democratic practice in the House.

She said Parliament got lively with the active participation of the MPs of both the treasury and opposition benches.

The Speaker praised the opposition MPs for their constructive role in the session by joining different business of the House, and hoped that they will continue it in the future as well.

The session began on June 5 while Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith placed the national budget for the fiscal2018-19 in the House on June 7.

During the session, a total of 223 MPs--181 of the ruling party and 42 of the opposition—participated in budget discussions for 55 hours and 55 minutes on the new budget while three hours and 51 minutes on the supplementary budget.

Some 181 notices under Section 71 of the Rules of Procedure were accepted in the session, of which 22 ones were discussed in the House.

Besides, 38 notices were discussed for two minutes under the Section 71 (Ka) of the Rules of Procedure.

A total of 155 questions were received for the Prime Minister, of which she replied to 37 ones in the session.

The session received a total of 2,881 questions for different ministers with the ministers replying to 2,029 questions.
