Foreign students, volunteers call on DU VC

Dhaka: A total of 14 students and volunteers from different countries including the United Kingdom (UK), Somalia, Morocco, Ethiopia, Malaysia, Algeria, Iran and British Bangladeshi citizens have met Dhaka University (DU) vice chancellor(VC) professor AAMS Arefin Siddique at the latter's office of the university on Tuesday.
The delegation led by Million Hailemarian, a community officer of the London Camden Council of Local Government Unit of the British Government, while the President of Bangladesh Female Academy (BFA), Sunamganj Jamil Chowdhury was present as focal person of the trip.
During the meeting, the visiting team expressed keen interest on academic programmes of the Dhaka University through mutual collaborations and cooperation.
The students also expressed keen interest about education, culture, heritage, lifestyles and future challenges and ways to handle those by the Bangladeshi people. They showed eagerness to gain further knowledge about economic development and prosperity which might be useful in their respective country situations.
AAMS Arefin Siddique thanked the guests for their visit and interest in academic activities of the university. He said that joint collaborative programmes can be organised so that foreign and Bangladeshi students can exchange their views and knowledge on different important issues and learn from each other to contribute for the development of their respective countries.
The vice chancellor also explained them about the glorious history of the university in achieving the independence of Bangladesh in 1971. He mentioned that Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman who led the country in the Liberation War of Bangladesh was also a student of this university. The glorious past, excellent present and golden future of this country is inseparable from Dhaka University, he added.
