12 union council polls schedules cancelled

Dhaka: The Election Commission on Wednesday cancelled the polls schedule for 12 Union Councils (UC) in the second-phase election billed for March 31.
The 12 union councils are Ghaghra of Kotalipara in Gopalganj, Bachore, Hossaingaon and Nanduar of Ranisankail in Thakurgaon, Begumpur, Shankarchandra and Titudah of Chuadanga sadar, Khokshabari and Tupamari of Nilphamari sadar, Aminabad and Nurabad of Char Fashion in Bhola and Kuchiamora of Magura sadar, according to a UNB report.
The Commission cancelled the schedules for the 12 union councils on various grounds, including the court orders, complexities related to demarcation and voter list, said Director (Public Relations) of the EC Secretariat SM Asaduzzaman.
Earlier on February 19, the EC announced the election schedule for 684 union councils in the 2nd phase.
In the second phase, the deadline for the submission of nomination paper will expire on March 2, while the nomination papers will be scrutinised on March 5 and 6, and the last date for the withdrawal of candidature is March 13.
