Scrap Jamaat leaders’ candidature: Gourab 71 to EC

Dhaka: Cultural organisation ‘Gourab 71’ on Saturday demanded the Election Commission scrap candidatures of all 25 Jamaat-e-Islami leaders contesting the 11th parliamentary polls.
The organisation sent a letter to Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda in this regard, reports the UNB.
‘The High Court cancelled Jamaat’s registration as the party’s charter contradicted our country’s constitution. The International Crimes Tribunal called Jamaat a ‘criminal party’ for its role during 1971,’ the letter read.
Jamaat’s registration with the EC was cancelled on August 1, 2013 by the High Court. But the EC finally scrapped the registration on October 29 this year.
Despite that, 25 leaders of Jamaat are contesting in the election, in clear violation of election code of conduct, the letter read.
