Thakurgaon: BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Thursday said holding a fair election under the Awami League government is not possible.

‘The election process has turned into a farce and no election atmosphere is prevailing in the country as all the attacks are made on BNP people. It’s very unfortunate and unimaginable that these attacks are being sponsored by the state itself,’ said Fakhrul while talking to journalists in front of his Thakurgaon residence in the morning, reports the UNB.

He also alleged that the goons equipped with sticks, machetes and arms not only roaming in the area openly but also threatening people.

‘It’s most unfortunate that a rumour has been doing the round that the law enforcement agencies will remain with them (Awami League) and a meeting with presiding officers was held in this regard, deciding that no one will go against the government,’ he said.

He also alleged that the ‘Awami goons’ have been torching BNP offices and houses of the minority people and blaming BNP for all those horrific activities.

‘We’re in the election and will remain there till the end,’ he added.
